Star Vijay commonly known as Vijay TV, is an Indian pay television channel that is owned by the Star India,[1] a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company India.[2] The channel broadcasts from Kochar Jade, Guindy, Chennai.[3] Their programs consists of family dramas, comedy series, reality shows, crime-based programmes and movies.

Star Vijay launched its own high-definition feed, Star Vijay HD, on 29 May 2016.[4]

The channel was first launched by N. P. V. Ramasamy Udayar on 24 November 1994, as Golden Eagle Communication. United Breweries Group acquired the channel in 1995 and renamed as Vijay TV.[5] The UTV Group bought the controlling interest from United Breweries Group in 1998. In 2001, Star India, subsidiary of American multinational mass media corporation Fox International Channels, took over the channel and rebranded it as Star Vijay. It became the first Tamil channel to air English-language films dubbed in Tamil.[6]

On 24 November 2016, its siblings channel Star Vijay Super was launched, which airs non-stop films and legacy television shows.

Programming[edit]

Star Vijay has programming which appeals to all audiences irrespective of their age groups or demography. The channel is well accepted as the complete family entertainer with game shows, reality show, comedy, spiritual shows, cookery, talk shows, musical shows, drama, films, and events.

Some of its shows, such as Seedhaiyin Raaman, Mahabharatham, En Kanavan En Thozhan, and Idhu Kadhala are Hindi-language productions dubbed into Tamil.

Mappillai (Tamil: மாப்பிள்ளை) is a 2016-2017 Tamil-languagetelevision soap opera starring Senthil Kumar and Sreeja Chandran. STAR Vijay initially broadcast the series on weeknights at 9:00PM (IST), with the debut episode screened on 14 November 2016.[1] On 26 June 2017, the broadcast time of the show was changed to 8:00PM (IST).

The show reunited actor-actress couple, Senthil Kumar and Sreeja Chandran, who previously starred together in television soap operas Madhurai, and the first season of Saravanan Meenatchi.[2][3][4] The show ended from 6 October 2017 with 241 Episodes.

Plot[edit]

It is a story about Senthil (Senthil Kumar) who is forced to live in his mother-in law's house which isn't a dignity according to Tamil people. Further, the show deals with the difficulties he goes through in Jaya`s (Sreeja Chandran)house because of her parents and how a husband supports his wife in achieving success in her life.

The show started airing on Vijay TV on 14 November 2016 and It aired on Monday through Friday at 9:00PM (IST). Later its timing changed Starting from Monday 26 June 2017, the show was shifted to airs Monday through Friday at 8:00PM (IST) time Slot. A new show named Bigg Boss Tamil replaced this show at 9:00PM (IST).
